Veteran's MemorialVeterans Memorial Project

At the 2007 annual meeting of the Cemetery Association, it was decided to create a veteran's memorial to honor the military heroes buried in our cemetery. The memorial was dedicated on Memorial Day, May 26, 2008.

The memorial consists of a flagpole, veteran's monument that includes the names of all those veterans buried at Concordia, and a bench, all on a cement base.

The family of Norman Hanson donated the flagpole in his honor.  The Strata Corporation donated the sand and concrete for the base, and the Hanson family covered other associated expenses.

The Ray Grover Estate donated the granite bench in honor of the Grover and Hegland family veterans.

The family of Glenn Kassenborg donated the funds to install lighting for the memorial and flag pole in his honor.

Donations from dozens of veteran family members funded the monument itself.  In addition, the association was able to purchase flags for the five services (Army, Air Force, Coast Guard, Navy and Marines) and a POW/MIA flag to be used for Memorial Day and other ceremonies, and plant stands.

Additional donations will be used to cover ordinary expenses such as purchasing flags and plants, and to pay for the yearly addition of any names to the memorial.
