A traveler was going down a road in Israel when he was
attacked by robbers. These bad men took his money and
then beat him up very badly. The robbers left him in
the middle of the road.
Later a priest was going down the same road. A
priest was a religious leader that everyone thought was very
important, and was held up as an example of how good people
should act. The priest did not stop to help the man.
He just stepped around him and continued on his way.
A Levite (a church worker) also traveled along the road.
He was also a person everyone respected because of his work
and religious devotion. The Levite didn't stop to help
the man, either. He just stepped around the man and
continued on his way.
A stranger from Samaria came down the road. People
from Samaria didn't get much respect from the people in
Israel, but this stranger stopped. He did what he
could to make the man who was hurt feel better, and then
brought him to an inn. The Samaritan paid the
innkeeper to give the traveler a room and nurse him back to
health. The Samaritan told the innkeeper that whatever
he had to spend to take care of the man, the Samaritan would repay him
when he came back that way.
When Jesus finished this story, he asked, "Who was the good
neighbor to the man on the road?" You can guess
the answer! |
