Each year in the spring at Passover, Joseph and Mary visited the Temple in Jerusalem.  When Jesus was twelve years old, he went with them.  Jesus' parents started back to their home in Nazareth, and then realized that Jesus wasn't with them!

They went back to Jerusalem, and searched and searched for three whole days. Mary finally found Jesus in the Temple.  He was with the teachers there, and they were instructing him about their religion.  Jesus  listened carefully, and asked good questions.  The teachers were impressed with how much he understood about the difficult subjects they were teaching him.

When Mary found her son, she was very happy, but she scolded Jesus and told him that she and Joseph had been very worried about him.

Jesus said, "Why would you worry about me?  Didn't you know I would be in my Father's house?"

As the school year begins, you will have a lot to learn, both at school and in Sunday School.  Be like Jesus, and listen carefully and ask good questions -- but always make sure that your parents know where you are!
