Joshua Leads the Israelites
into the Promised Land
The Israelites crossed the Jordan early in the morning.
The priests carrying the Ark of the Covenant led the way.
The river was flooded, but just as God parted the Red Sea
for the Israelites to leave Egypt, God moved the waters so
that they could enter Canaan on dry land.
To commemorate God's miracle, Joshua asked a man from
each of the 12 tribes to pick a stone from the river bed.
The stones were placed around the Ark of the Covenant so
that the Israelites would never forget.
